Sai — meaning Sakshaat Ishwar, God the Absolute
Shri Sai Baba is revered as one of the greatest saints India has seen, endowed with unprecedented powers and worshipped as a God incarnate. This mysterious fakir first appeared in Shirdi as a youth and remained there for the whole of his long life — transforming everyone who met him, and continuing to do so even after his Samadhi in 1918, for all whose hearts he has touched.

Blessings, without discrimination
Baba stated that his mission was to give blessings without discrimination to all, and he proved it in myriad ways — healing the sick, saving lives, protecting the vulnerable, averting accidents, granting offspring, facilitating financial gain, bringing people into harmony within themselves and with each other, and, above all, guiding the spiritual evolution of those who came to him as a last resort.
As one of his contemporary devotees put it, Baba was "the embodiment of the supreme spirit, lighting the seekers' path by his every word and action."
An experience, not an imagination
To his devotees, Baba is nothing less than a God — and this has always been a matter of direct experience, not imagination. His own words carried that same equality of spirit: he looked at all with an equal eye, regardless of who came to him or why.
One love, welcomed by every faith
An outstanding aspect of Sai Baba is that he stood beyond the distinctions of religion, caste, or creed. He embodied every religion and preached one universal religion — love.
Devotees of all faiths find their meeting point in Sai, and people from every community and walk of life are united by the love and reverence he inspires in them. Baba held great regard for his Hindu devotees and their gurus, and permitted worship according to Hindu and other religious rituals. At the same time, his dwelling place was a Masjid, and the name of Allah was ever on his lips — he described himself as in service to God, a soul ever remembering Allah (Yad-a-Hakka).
A promise that outlives the Samadhi
People flock to Shirdi in ever-increasing numbers to pay homage, and to experience the truth of Baba's promise that he remains active in answering his devotees' prayers, even from his tomb.
Like the ten commandments, Baba gave eleven assurances to humanity for their welfare. He said he was a slave in the service of those who loved him — ever living to help those who turn to him, and bound to care for his children day and night.
He taught the value of total surrender to the Almighty Master — Allah Malik Hai, "The only One" — and of living in that grace. Those who come to Baba's Shirdi experience for themselves how unfailingly he fulfils his commitments, coming to his devotees' rescue in their moments of crisis.
